Jay's Handmade Jewellery
A Range of Enamelled Coppercraft
Pendants are mounted on a Chain or Leather Necklace
Jaydon started as a family interest a few years ago,
after watching craftsmen in the English Lake District making Pendants and Bracelets.
The techniques of enamelling were discovered hundreds of years ago, and today we are still using the same basic methods.
We developed our own techniques for producing intricate designs and colours in molten enamels.
Each item of jewellery starts life as a blank, pure copper shape, cut by hand for complicated designs, or produced by a metal stamp. This is finished and polished by hand.
Enamel Oxide is applied to the copper, either single colours or combinations of colours.
The copper is then heated over a flame until the enamel powder becomes molten at 800 to 900 degrees centigrade, and designs can then be drawn into the enamels.
This is the critical part of manufacture.
The enamelled copper is allowed to cool slowly, and is then cleaned and polished by hand,
And finally mounted as required.
Because each design is drawn by hand in molten enamel, and is very delicate work, every item is absolutely unique, and when two apparently identical items are compared closely, small variations in design and colour can be seen. Matched sets of jewellery call for extremely painstaking work,
It is this unique quality which has contributed so much to the success of Jaydon, as the person wearing a Pendant or a set of Jaydon Jewellery knows that no-one else can be wearing exactly the same
